The Year Ahead, 2015

2015 is a year in which events have the stamp of destiny upon them; a year in which the unexpected alters an entire life; but it is also a year when these same astrological trends motivate each of us to change our own fortunes.

The job of changing our fortunes is down to an unusual eclipse pattern known as a tetrad.

A tetrad is a group of four, which in this case refers to a series of four total lunar eclipses. Not only is this a comparatively rare phenomenon - there were none for 300 years until 1900 - but each eclipse is quite a spectacle in its own right since the moon will turn blood red. So if you’re interested in watching this extraordinary event on 4 April you’ll need to get yourself to America or Australia, however, you may not have to go so very far to see the fourth and last eclipse of the cycle which takes place on 28 September and can be seen across Europe.

Astrologers get extremely excited about eclipses, especially total eclipses. Back in Ancient Greece they were always very bad news, whether they were total, partial or penumbral: wars were lost, dynasties overthrown, and plagues and pestilences descended on all their houses.

We modern star-gazers, however, tend to view eclipses as game changers. Nations still tend to rise and fall when eclipses meet their horoscopes but so too are great discoveries made, extraordinary acts of courage and daring performed and babies born who leave their mark on history.

If the total eclipses connect with a planet or point in your own chart, your life will never be quite the same again. You could meet the One or you could meet your Waterloo. And since this tetrad takes place in Libra and Aries, if you belong to one of these signs or Capricorn and Cancer, you are at the front of the queue when it comes to life-changing events. However, whenever your birthday, you’ll know where to point the finger if something pops up out of the blue and changes your fortunes.

The Fixed signs - Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio – start out the year under a strong Jupiter influence. Growth and inflation are opposite sides of this planetary coin, but if you’ve got plans and high ambitions, you should use this planet’s expansive qualities to get your rocket of dreams off the launch-pad. As it is, great and good developments may happen when you least expect them.

As for the Mutable signs - Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo and Pisces - Saturn’s recent arrival in Sagittarius encourages you to find your power and rise to prominence and the occasion! However, those things not built to last will surely crumble under this planet’s watch and there will be lessons to learn. When Jupiter arrives in Virgo on 11 August, hard work and tough times will start to pay off. Handsomely.

Last year presented more than its share of global conflicts and 2015 promises to eclipse 2014 in terms of international crises. Nations will come to the brink on more than one occasion, and Putin is not giving up on his mission to reclaim the land lost in the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991. There will be trouble.

And with Saturn just beginning its two and a half year transit of Sagittarius, fears of another economic collapse may not prove unfounded. Saturn was in Sagittarius at the start of the Great Depression and it was in the same sign in October 1987 when stock markets across the world crashed.

But if all this sounds too gloomy for words, I should remind you that it is the years of struggle that produce some of the finest events: dynamic alignments bring welcome change as well as conflict and controversy. So, at the stroke of midnight on 31 December, tilt your glasses and say three cheers to a year that promises remarkable things.
