DIANA, IN MEMORIAM
It is ten years ago precisely that Diana, The Princess of Wales died. And in memory of her life and death I thought it appropriate to include a few thoughts here on Astrolutely.com. They come in the form of a chapter in my book, Starstruck.

Penny Thornton: Summer 2007
First off, my apologies to all you lovely Antipodeans and inhabitants of the Southern Hemisphere, for this is not the Summer Horoscope for you but Winter. But, whether you're feeling hot and bothered or cool and unencumbered, the message of the stars will alter not one jot. Enjoy.

If you have a chance this summer, spend some time under the night sky gazing at the constellations and picking out the planets from the stars (stars twinkle; planets don't), not only will this prove a pleasurable activity but it will suddenly make your problems seem very, very small...

One planet you will be able to see will be Jupiter, quite the brightest on the eastern horizon once the sun has completely set. Jupiter is bringing good fortune into the lives of Sagittarians (no, don't laugh!) and creating brilliant opportunities for Geminians, Pisceans and Virgoans. Jupiter's passage through this most globally-oriented and celebrity-struck of signs is inspiring many of us, regardless of our sun sign, to head into war-torn or disaster-struck areas to provide relief from the suffering of the innocent and sometimes adopting their babies. Jupiter will remain in this magnanimous sign until late December, so we can also expect to see major news-headlines featuring religious and educational establishments, and the big take-overs, break-throughs and boom-bust stories of the summer will surely centre on the publishing, law and travel industries.

Saturn will be moving through the last few degrees of Leo but on 2nd September this planet will enter Virgo. Saturn is more comfortable in an earth sign so although it can never be described as giving easy lessons to humankind, a workman-like attitude to setting wrongs to rights will bring real results. We should be able to bring order out of the chaos of our health and education systems and while the food industry will have to get its act together, or else, we too will have to come to grips individually with our food issues. Saturn was last in Virgo between 1978-1980 - a period that saw Jimmy Carter in the Oval Office, food shortages in the wake of the drought in Europe, and OPEC doubling the price of oil, leading to an increase in interest rates, which pushed industrialized countries into a deep recession. Food for thought, indeed. Virgos and Pisceans will be put neatly through their paces during the next couple of years, as will most signs with the exception of Capricorn, Taurus, Cancer and Scorpio whose creative and fun-loving spirits will be given free rein. Saturn prunes our tree of life and urges us to live within our limits, while wasting nothing. But, of course, there are benefits to Saturn, which include making our mark in life and coming to terms with who we really are.

Saturn's tour of Leo has been complicated by Neptune's presence in the opposite sign of Aquarius. We see the beginning of the end of this opposition in June when, on the 25th, it makes its third and final pass. The struggle between conformity and individualism is depicted here and it is the reason we are seeing such demonstrations of anarchy and acts of terrorism aimed at imperialistic powers and authoritarian regimes. It is also the reason why all of us, but especially Leos, Taureans, Aquarians and Scorpios, have been meeting with such extreme strangeness. This planetary two-some also appears to play a part in royal life, particularly with the British royals, so it will be interesting to see what losses , gains and constitutional changes will occur this summer. This opposition has clearly played a part in the ongoing shambles of the inquest into the death of Princess Diana, and with the tenth anniversary of the accident in the Alma Tunnel falling on 30th August, we may see some interesting revelations emerging at this time.

Before the summer ends, we manage to fit in a total lunar eclipse in the sign of Pisces. This eclipse of 28th August is not only an echo of an earlier one at the beginning of March this year but also the solar eclipse of 2nd September 1997, which is why I think the anniversary of Diana's death may prove controversial and that this late summer/early autumn period could coincide with the breaking of other scandals.

You probably don't need me to tell you it's going to be a hot summer in Europe, but all the signs - astrological and otherwise - are there. Saturn's passage through Leo and Virgo back in the Seventies coincided with major heat waves, so if we do nothing else in preparation for those long, lazy, hazy days it's stock up on sun screen and remind ourselves that it's never to late to get in shape!

Have a great summer.
